What is the material composition of Con-Tact Turf®?

Con-Tact Turf® has a material composition of polyethylene and polypropylene woven fibers, with a durable polyurethane backing, giving a long lasting authentic grass look that can be enjoyed for years. The turf is made of 100% recyclable materials and is completely safe for children and pets.

Is Con-Tact Turf® permeable with rain water and other water ?

Yes. The turf is permeable, allowing rain water and other fine liquids to effectively drain through the turf fibers, sub-layers, and perforated polyurethane backing layer. Numerous perforations (drainage holes) in the polyurethane backing layer allow for more-than-adequate water drainage to the substrate (aggregate or sand) layer and the topsoil (earth layer) beneath the turf after installation.

What are the various residential & commercial applications of Con-Tact Turf®?

Con-Tact Turf® has numerous residential and commercial landscape applications, including usage for lawn landscape, gardens, playgrounds, parks, green belts, pool & spa areas, balconies & decks, sunrooms, lofts, rooftop gardens, patios & lanais, solariums & atriums, courtyards, indoor & outdoor staging areas, recreation rooms, indoor day care centers, and pet areas. Where is the face-weight of Con-Tact Turf®?

The face weight of Con-Tact Turf® is 80 oz. The face weight of turf is measured by the yarn weight per square yard, which excludes the polyurethane backing layer and any infill that would be applied to the product. The weight and density of the turf serves as a guideline for the expected long-term durability and wear, when comparing turf textures and turf blade varieties (monofilament, slit film or other types).

Where is the pile height (length) of Con-Tact Turf®?

The turf pile height may vary from 358mm ~ 40mm in height. Variations will be attributed to the product SKU and any design changes or improvements through the seasons. Consult with Kittrich Corporation for the most current product specifications.

What is the warranty period of Con-Tact Turf®?

Con-Tact Turf® has a five (5) year limited product warranty for DIY installations, and a ten (10) year warranty for contracted installation through Kittrich Corporation installers. With proper care and easy scheduled maintenance, the turf can be expected to last at least 10-15 years, which may vary, in lieu of the frequency of cleaning, exposure to hot & cold environmental temperatures, rain & humidity, natural wear & tear, placement of furniture or objects, and any incidental puncturing or damage that may compromise the turf.

Is Con-Tact Turf® safe for children and pets?

Yes. Con-Tact Turf® contains no carcinogens and is California Prop 65 compliant. The turf is also RoHS6 compliant, making it safe and environmentally friendly, and SGS certified for fire resistance. It contains high antibiotic properties as well.

Will Con-Tact Turf® fade over time?

A level of fading may occur over time, dependent upon the geography, as well as exposure to sun, shade, and heat. Within the five (year) warranty period, there shall be no significant color fading (“fade-out”) that would compromise the natural look of the turf. Animal urine does not fade or damage the turf.

Is Con-Tact Turf® relatively easy to install myself?

Yes. Given the 6.5’ x 12.5’ ( ~ 82 sq. ft.) turf roll size, weighing only 44 lbs., consumers can elect to install Con-Tact Turf® themselves. For Do-It-Yourself (DIY) installation, please refer to the Installation Guide for instructions and required tools and materials. Naturally, with most home improvement projects, moderate labor is involved. Consumers may elect DIY installation, or simply hire experienced landscape labor, for which all Con-Tact Turf® installation shall follow the turf Installation Guide to uphold the warranty.

How is Con-Tact Turf® groomed and cleaned?

The use of non-corrosive biodegradable soap, cold water, and a bristle broom are effective in cleaning Con-Tact Turf®. Similar to the care for indoor carpeting, the turf should be cleaned periodically, as needed, removing natural debris (leaves, foliage, or pollutants) from the surface by hand. A bristle broom or plastic rake can also be used to keep blades upright and collect large debris. DO NOT use metal rakes, pressure washers, or harsh chemicals to clean the turf, as this will damage the material and void the warranty.

How often is the maintenance for Con-Tact Turf®?

The frequency and level of maintenance for Con-Tact Turf® will correlate with the amount of debris that may naturally collect or accidentally distribute onto the turf, as well as the exposure to dogs and other pets. Grooming and cleaning will also depend on the level of human wear & tear activity on the turf. The more activity that the turf is exposed to will result in a greater propensity and need for routine cleaning. To clean, remove solid waste and debris periodically, especially in pet areas. Use a bristle broom or plastic rake to spruce up turf blades that may be matted. Use soap & water and/or distilled vinegar to neutralize bacterial in the turf, then rinse with cold water.

What is “Infill” and how can it help maintain the integrity of Con-Tact Turf®?

Infill is a product that is applied (spread) onto the surface layer of the turf and worked into the bottom of the fibers, as a means to provide benefits in maintaining the turf look, durability, and integrity. It is recommended to apply 1-1.5 lbs of Infill per square foot of Con-Tact Turf®. Benefits of infill use will include:

  • Added ground weight to the turf (to resist turf pull-up)
  • Added resilience and firmness of turf blades, keeping blades upright after moderate to heavy activity
  • Turf cooling, especially necessary with turf installed in hot, sunny environments
  • Added softness on impact and shock absorption with general turf activity
  • Absorption and distribution of rain water and fine liquids to facilitate effective permeability and drainage
  • Amalgamation and capture of urine odor (from dogs and other animal), and other odors generated from fine liquids.
Can Con-Tact Turf® get hot?

Yes, the turf can get hot, when exposed to external temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. As the product is a synthetic product, it may be susceptible to heat-rise in lieu of long-term exposure to extreme sun and hot temperatures. HOWEVER, with the adequate use of Infill and water overspray, temperatures can easily be reduced by 10-20 degrees, or more. The amount of heat will depend on overall sun and temperature exposure, the amount of Infill placed on the turf, and the general frequency to cool with water over extended periods.

Where is Con-Tact Turf® distributed and sold?

Con-Tact Turf® is distributed through Kittrich Corporation located in the greater Los Angeles, CA area (Pomona, CA). The availability and sale of Con-Tact Turf® will vary by the seasons and by the elective resale programs offered by regional and national retailers, home improvement centers, hardware stores, dealers & distributors, and authorized turf installers of Kittrich Corporation.
